Ge|ra|nyl- [↑ Geraniol u. ↑ -yl-] Syn.: (E)- oder trans-3,7-Dimethylocta-2,6-dien-1-yl-, Diprenyl-: Präfix für den von Geraniol abgeleiteten Rest C10H17, der nicht nur als geruchsbestimmende Komponente in parfümistisch eingesetzten Geranylestern vorkommt, sondern auch über Geranyldiphosphat (Geranylpyrophosphat) ein wichtiges Glied in der Biogenesekette der ↑ Isoprenoide ist, denn durch Addition weiterer C5-Einheiten entstehen Sesquiterpene (z. B. ↑ Farnesol), Diterpene (z. B. Geranylgeraniol), Tri- u. Tetraterpene (↑ Isoprenregel).
